Rapid, tailored support for staff facing aggression and vicarious trauma

How a bespoke onsite session, planned and delivered within three weeks, grew into ongoing support across multiple sites.

The challenge

A not for profit organisation needed tailored onsite support at short notice, with three weeks to plan and deliver it. Staff were dealing with aggressive clients and vicarious trauma, and the organisation asked for resilience training, stress management and practical strategies to help.

Our approach

Our Clinical team designed and delivered a bespoke onsite training session, shaped by insights from the organisation’s HR manager and our Relationship Manager. Alongside the group session, we made individual counselling available onsite, so staff could talk through their own challenges privately.

The impact

The individual sessions gave staff space to discuss the topics HR had raised, as well as other concerns affecting them. Despite the emotionally demanding subject matter, staff found the sessions a positive experience, and awareness and use of the EAP increased. Word spread between colleagues, and further sessions followed at other sites, with insights from the first session helping the clinician tailor ongoing support efficiently.
